art curation

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center - Commack, NY

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center with a progressive approach to the important role artwork can play in a patient's experience.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center engaged Arisohn + Murphy to curate over 100 new artworks for their recently renovated facility in Commack, New York.  Covering exam rooms, common spaces, and entryways we worked to create a cohesive artistic vision that brought in color and texture with a mix of emerging and local artists.  Multi-use spaces that provide the highest level of medical care required a thoughtful approach that allowed the artwork to add to the overall calm and soothing atmosphere MSKCC creates for patients and staff.  We also coordinated the delivery, installation and wall labels for the installation to streamline the entire project around MSKCC Commack's busy daily schedule.

What we did: Provided multiple artwork options for each location, organized commissions by five artists, purchased 124 pieces of art and negotiated discounts for MSKCC, coordinated all shipping, transportation and framing, oversaw the onsite install over the course of two weekends, consulted on the reuse and curation for artworks already in MSKCC collection, and created a master project budget and visual plan
