art curation

Memorial Sloan kettering cancer center, new york city

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center with a progressive approach to the important role artwork can play in a patient's experience.

With this mission in mind, Arisohn + Murphy was privileged to curate work for a newly renovated floor at 160 East 53rd Street. Following a beautiful renovation with state of the art medical technologies and exam rooms that feature large windows and plenty of natural light, MSKCC wanted art to complement the renovated spaces and add color and vibrancy for patients and staff.  We selected and commissioned artworks by four different artists whose work focused on energetic colors and movement that complemented the space.  The installation immediately brought a sense of calmness to the exam rooms while still acting as an important and interesting focal point for the patient. We also worked with the MSKCC team to select artwork to print on hallway glass dividers that give additional texture and atmosphere to busy common spaces.

What we did: Provided multiple artwork options for each location, made Sketchup models with select artwork, organized commissions by 2 artists, purchased all artworks negotiating discounts for MSKCC, coordinated all shipping, transportation and framing, oversaw the onsite install and created a master project budget
