MANHATTAN EYE, Ear, AND THROAT HOSPITAL

PERMANENT INSTALLATION: 26 Visions

In 2016, The Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital (MEETH) received a donation of 26 artworks by George Mendoza, a former patient of the hospital and legally blind artist celebrated for his vibrant abstract paintings.  MEETH engaged Arisohn + Murphy to curate the installation and advise on proper wall text and labels to communicate information about the paintings and the artist to hospital visitors.  Installing artworks throughout MEETH in private and public spaces, we tailored the installation to create interesting groupings of works that were sensitive to the different uses of space in a hospital setting. The installation immediately brightened and enlivened the building and was met with excitement and interest from hospital staff and visitors.
